General Information on Visas

Travel to Russia requires an entry visa. The Consular Section issues different categories of visas to Russia based upon the purpose of the trip and the duration of stay in Russia.

The following documents should be submitted in order to obtain a visa according to its category:

  1. Completed visa application form. Visa application must be submitted online on the web-site https://visa.kdmid.ru. A printed version of completed visa application form should be submetted to the Consular Section.
  2. Valid national passport (and one copy) with at least two clear visa pages. The passport must be valid no less than six months after the visa expiration date. 
  3. One picture of an applicant. Russian Visa Photo Specifications.
  4. Visa support documents (depending on the type and category of the requested visa).
  5. Travel tickets (air tickets)
  6. Non-Bahraini citizens should also provide Resident Permit or CPR Card (original+copy)
  7. Сopies of previous visas to Russia

 

  • Appointment is not required
  • The recommended time period for submitting a full set of documents for visa processing is one-two month before the planned trip.
  • The officer of the Consular Section of the Embassy may refuse to issue an urgent visa without explanation.
  • Documents for visa must be submitted by an applicant in person
  • Visa processing starts only after the Consular Section has collected all necessary documents. 
  • Visa Processing Fee is not refundable.
  • Type of visa or dates of entry/departure can not be changed or extended.
  • Once application is accepted, a numbered receipt is given to an applicant. The receipt must be presented to a diplomat to collect a visa.
  • The Consular Section does not provide copy, photo or other services.
  • After the visa is received it should be checked by the traveller (spelling of the name, dates of travel, passport number, date of birth) and, if necessary, returned to the Consular Section for corrections.
  • The Consular Section is entitled to call the applicants for an interview and ask questions on personal, financial, business, corporate related issues as well as on applicant's Russian contacts and relatives.
  • When crossing the State border, you should have the apropriate documentation, confirming the purpose of your visit, as well as return flight tickets.
  • One can not have two valid visas in one passport; in this case the first visa is to be cancelled.

Electronic Visa to Vladivostok

Since August 2017 a special visa regime has been extended

to the free port of Vladivostok.

Bahraini nationals can obtain an electronic visa to visit Vladivostok

Tourist Visa

To apply for a tourist visa an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, travel tickets, one standard passport-size picture, as well as:

Visa-support letter from the authorized hosting Russian travel agency. The confirmation should contain full name of the traveler, date of birth, passport number, date of entry/departure, itinerary, the agency's reference number, registration number, official seal and signature of the authorized person.

To obtain the aforementioned document, you can contact your hotel directly and request to issue a visa-support letter.

Hotel booking statement is not valid for obtaining a tourist visa.

Russian tourist visa can be issued for not longer than 30 days. When entering Russia with a tourist visa, you could be also asked to present your tourist confirmation, voucher and a return ticket with a fixed date of departure from Russia. You must also prove that you have sufficient funds for your trip.

For tourists travelling on board of a cruise ship

Tourists arriving to one of the river or sea ports of the Russian Federation on board of a cruise ship don't need an entry visa to the Russian Federation provided that:

1) The stay of the cruise ship in the Russian port will not exceed 72 hours (excluding cases of force-majeure when the ship is being repaired or by other reasons beyond control cannot leave the Russian port);

2) Passengers are staying on board the ship at nights;

3) Passengers are only allowed to visit territories, defined by the group tourist program;

4) To leave the board of the ship without an entry visa to the Russian Federationforeign citizen must be included in the list of passengers, allowed to do so. Such a list is provided by the captain of the cruise ship 72 hours in advance of the entry to the Russian port. The passenger must also have his identity papers (travel passport).

Please be advised, that you should try to settle the issue with your cruise company prior to departure to avoid misunderstanding.

Business Visa

To apply for a business visa an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, one standard passport-size photo as well as:

  1. Invitation issued by the Russian Ministries of Foreign or Internal Affairs. All state and private companies/organizations based in Moscow and other regions should process their invitations through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation/its regional representative offices or Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs/its local visa offices. To apply for the Invitation, issued by the Ministry of Interior the hosting person or company located in Russia may use following links:

  2. Original of HIV negative certificate, that should be issued not earlier than 1 month before submitting the visa application. HIV negative certificate is only required if the validity of visa is more than 3 months (90 days).

Multiple re-entry visas are valid for a one-year period, starting not earlier than the date, indicated in the confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign or Internal Affairs of Russia.

Private Visa (Homestay Visa)

To apply for a private visa an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, one standard passport-size photo, as well as:

  1. Original visa support letter issued by the Migration Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Applicant's relatives or friends can obtain such invitations. To apply for the Invitation, issued by the Ministry of Interior the hosting person located in Russia may use following links:

No copies are accepted.

The invitation must be on a headed letter and contain full name of the invited person, his/her date of birth, passport number, duration of stay in Russia and cities to be visited. The invitation must be signed and sealed by authorized persons.

Private for the relatives (husband, wife, minor child) of the Russian Citizen who has residency in the Kingdom of Bahrain

If your wife or husband is a Russian Citizen with valid Russian Foreign Passport and Bahraini residency and you intend to travel to Russia together she\he may submit special application to the Consular Section to issue Private Visa for you or (and) your joint minor child. 
This type of visa can be valid for the period up to three months only.

RUSSIAN CITIZEN - APPLICANT MUST SUBMIT APPLICATION TO THE CONSULAR SECTION IN PERSON ONLY

Documents required: 
Special application on the name of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Bahrain (Sample) with the copy of the valid Russian Foreign Passport of the applicant-Russian citizen and document confirming her\his Bahraini residency (Residence permit, CPR). 
Original or copy of Marriage Certificate or Child's Birth Certificate. 

Student Visa

To apply for a student visa, an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, one standard passport picture, as well as:

  1. Invitation, issued by the ٌRussian Ministry of Internal Affairs upon the request of the University.
  2. HIV blood test (AIDS) Certificate. This certificate is valid for 3 month only.

Please, be aware that the national passport has to be valid for no less than one and a half-year.

Work Visa

To apply for a work visa an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form (submitted online), national passport, two standard passport pictures as well as:

  1. Invitation issued by the Russian Ministries of Foreign or Internal Affairs. All state and private companies/organizations based in Moscow and other regions should process their invitations through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation/its regional representative offices or Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs/its local visa offices. To apply for the Invitation, issued by the Ministry of Interior, the hosting organisation located in Russia may use following links:

Transit Visa

Transit visa is required if period of stay in Russia exceeds 24 hours or a traveller needs to change the airport or terminals.

Transit visa can be issued for no longer than 3 days!

To apply for a transit visa, an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, one standard passport picture, as well as:

  1. Visa of the country of destination;
  2. Tickets for the whole itinerary.

Diplomatic and Official Visa

Diplomatic visa is granted for foreign citizens upon the receipt of a "note verbale" from a diplomatic/consular representation or permanent mission to international organization and the follow-up authorization of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain on mutual exemption of visa requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Service and Special Passports. 

Migration Card

In accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation Migration Card should be completed by all foreign Citizens should fill in the Migration card and present it at the border control along with a national passport and travel documents. Migration Card can be obtained on board of a plane, in a train or at a Border Control Office.

Please be advised, that you should register with a local office of the Ministry of the Interior within three working days of arrival at the hotel or other organization rendering hotel services. It is not necessary to register if the visa is for two to three days only.

Negligence can result in penalties and fines.

Registration outside the territory of the Russian Federation is illegal and may entail serious consequences and penalties.

Please keep part B of the Migration Card along with your passport until the departure passport control procedure.

Processing time, requirements and fees are subject to change without notice.

In accordance with the International Law, in certain cases the Consular Section is entitled to consider visa applications as long as it necessary. Visa can be denied if the Consular section has serious reasons to believe that an applicant's entry into or stay in the territory of the Russian Federation will not be desirable.
