Travel to Russia requires an entry visa. The Consular Section issues different categories of visas to Russia based upon the purpose of the trip and the duration of stay in Russia.
The following documents should be submitted in order to obtain a visa according to its category:
- Completed visa application form. Visa application must be submitted online on the web-site https://visa.kdmid.ru. A printed version of completed visa application form should be submitted to the Consular Section.
- Valid national passport (and one copy) with at least two clear visa pages. The passport must be valid no less than six months after the visa expiration date.
- One picture of an applicant. Russian Visa Photo Specifications.
- Visa support documents (depending on the type and category of the requested visa).
- Travel tickets (flight tickets).
- Non-Bahraini citizens should also provide Resident Permit or CPR Card (original+copy).
- Сopies of previous visas to Russia.
- Appointment is not required.
- The recommended time period for submitting a full set of documents for visa processing is one-two month before the planned trip.
- The officer of the Consular Section of the Embassy may refuse to issue an urgent visa without explanation.
- Documents for visa must be submitted by an applicant in person.
- Visa processing starts only after the Consular Section has collected all necessary documents.
- Visa Processing Fee is not refundable.
- Type of visa or dates of entry/departure can not be changed or extended.
- Once application is accepted, a numbered receipt is given to an applicant. The receipt must be presented to collect a visa.
- Consular Section does not provide copy, photo or other similar services.
- Upon collection the visa should be checked by the traveller (spelling of the name, dates of travel, passport number, date of birth) and, if necessary, returned for corrections.
- Consular Section is entitled to call the applicants for an interview and ask questions on personal, financial, business, corporate related issues.
- While crossing the State border, it is recommended to keep the documents, confirming the purpose of your visit, as well as return flight tickets.
- One can not have two valid visas in one passport; in this case the first visa should to be cancelled.
- Foreign nationals can not enter Russia with valid visa in cancelled passport. In this regard, the visa should be transferred to a new passport.

To apply for a tourist visa an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, travel tickets, one standard passport-size picture, as well as:
Visa-support letter from the authorized hosting Russian travel agency. The confirmation should contain full name of the traveler, date of birth, passport number, date of entry/departure, itinerary, the agency's reference number, registration number, official seal and signature of the authorized person.
To obtain the aforementioned document, you can contact directly your hotel and request to issue a visa-support letter.
Hotel booking statement is not valid for obtaining a tourist visa.
Tourist visa can be issued for period, mentioned in tourist documents and can not be longer than 30 days.
While crossing the State border, a foreigner could be asked to provide documents, confirming the purpose of the visit, as well as return flight tickets and proof of sufficient funds.
For tourists travelling on board of a cruise ship
Tourists arriving to one of the river or sea ports of the Russian Federation on board of a cruise ship don't need an entry visa to the Russian Federation provided that:
- The stay of the cruise ship in the Russian port will not exceed 72 hours (excluding cases of force-majeure when the ship is being repaired or by other reasons beyond control that the ship can not leave the Russian port);
- Passengers are staying on board of the ship at nights;
- Passengers are allowed to visit only territories, defined by the group tourist program;
- To leave the board of the ship without an entry visa to the Russian Federation foreign citizen must be included in the list of passengers, allowed to enter the city. Such a list should be provided by the captain of the cruise ship 72 hours in advance of entry to the Russian port. The passenger should also keep his identity documents (travel passport) while travelling.
Please be advised, that you should settle this issue with your cruise company prior to departure to avoid misunderstanding.
Bahrain is included in the list of 53 countries whose citizens may enter Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Region (since October 1, 2019), Special Economic Zone in the Kaliningrad Region (since July 1, 2019) and Far Eastern Federal District (Since August 8, 2017), upon free-of-charge electronic visa valid for 30 days from the date of issue with allowed period of stay – 8 days.
Application for the e-visa with one recent digital photo of the applicant should be submitted at least 4 days before the planned trip through the web-page: http://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru.
E-visas can be used to enter, leave and stay in territories, mentioned in evisa only, for tourist, business or humanitarian purposes.

- Invitation issued by the Russian Ministries of Foreign or Internal Affairs. All state and private companies/organizations based in Moscow and other regions should process their invitations through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation/its regional representative offices or Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs/its local visa offices. Multiple re-entry visas are valid for a one-year period, starting not earlier than the date, indicated in the confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign or Internal Affairs of Russia.
To apply for a private visa an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, one standard passport-size photo, as well as:

Private visa for the relatives (husband, wife, minor child) of the Russian Citizen who has residency in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
If your wife or husband is a Russian Citizen with valid Russian Foreign Passport and Bahraini residency and you intend to travel to Russia together she\he may submit special application to the Consular Section to issue Private Visa for you or (and) your joint minor child.
This type of visa can be valid for the period of up to three months only. Application must be submitted by the Russian relative in person.
Documents required:
Special application on the name of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Bahrain (Sample) with the copy of the valid Russian Foreign Passport of the applicant-Russian citizen and document confirming her\his Bahraini residency (Residence permit, CPR).
Marriage Certificate or Child's Birth Certificate (with copy).
To apply for a student visa, an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, one standard passport picture, as well as:
- Invitation, issued by the ٌRussian Ministry of Internal Affairs upon the request of the University.
- HIV blood test (AIDS) Certificate. This certificate is valid for 3 month only.
Please, be aware that the passport should be valid for no less than one year and a half.
To apply for a work visa an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form (submitted online), national passport, two standard passport pictures as well as:
- Invitation issued by the Russian Ministries of Foreign or Internal Affairs. All state and private companies/organizations based in Moscow and other regions should process their invitations through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation/its regional representative offices or Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs/its local visa offices. Transit visa is required if period of stay in Russia exceeds 24 hours or a traveller needs to change the airport or terminals.
Transit visa can be issued for no longer than 3 days!
To apply for a transit visa, an applicant should submit to the Consular Section a completed visa application form, national passport, one standard passport picture, as well as:
- Visa of the country of destination;
- Tickets for the whole itinerary.
Diplomatic visa is granted for foreign citizens upon the receipt of a "note verbale" from a diplomatic/consular representation or permanent mission to international organization and the follow-up authorization of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation Migration Card should be completed by all foreign Citizens should fill in the Migration card and present it at the border control along with a national passport and travel documents. Migration Card can be obtained on board of a plane, in a train or at a Border Control Office.
Please be advised, that you should register with a local office of the Ministry of the Interior within three working days of arrival at the hotel or other organization rendering hotel services. It is not necessary to register if the visa is valid for up to three days only.
Negligence can result in penalties and fines.
Registration outside the territory of the Russian Federation is illegal and may entail serious consequences and penalties.
Please keep part B of the Migration Card along with your passport until the departure passport control procedure.
